Geothermal exploration on areas of Ahuachapan and Berlín (El Salvador) by means of geochemical techniques of surface.
Geotérmica Salvadoreña S.A. de C.V.
Since the middle sixties, the use of geothermic energy has been one of the main providers of electric energy in El Salvador, and, nowadays, it is responsible of the 23% of the Salvadorian electric energy production. At the present two geothermal fields are under exploitation in El Salvador, Ahuachapán and Berlín, but exploration, previability and viability researches about the enlargement of these fields as well as new potential geothermal fields in San Vicente, Coatepeque, Chinameca and Obrajuelo, are being done.
The aim of the GESAL project is to contribute to the strengthness of the previability phase in the exploration works that are being done to the enlargement of the geothermal fields of Ahuachapan and Berlín. Inside the framework of this pahse, two geochemical prospections of gases and volatiles will be performed on the surperficial environment of this geothetmic fields. The aim of this works is to contribute, together with geophysical prospections, to the selection of the most suitable areas for exploring drillings.
