Abstract

This project pretends to use the offered possibilities of the high speed connection through wireless technologies to promote the use of added value services in these areas of insular geography. Parting from the carried out efforts in the execution of the Internet Rural program, which includes the association of different connection technologies in order to reach rural areas with high speed connection, independently that these technologies are wireless or not.

The action range of these nets is meant to be extended with the creation of a series of nodes, already included in the project, as well as the quantity and quality of the offered services, in a way that can be used as a platform for the promotion of these technologies in the rural areas. Several activities have been carried out to promote the telecentres in order to reach this goal. A seminary has also taken place in different parts of the island with the participation of politicians and technicians of the program. More that 100 telecentres have already been installed and 38 more are expected to add up to 138. Each of them has a wireless connection, computer equipment such as printer, scanner and webcam. The training sessions have been divided in two, one for the managers of the telecentres in the northern part of the island, and the other for those of the southern part. The first group has counted with the collaboration of the University of La Laguna, which offered a lecture room in the Escuela Suprior de Informatica.
