The MACSEN-PV project is conceived as a platform for technical cooperation between the Canary Islands and Senegal in the field of the integration of renewable energies in the power supply. Its main objective is to improve the capacity of public authorities and local technicians to support the implementation of renewable energies as part of the power supply in these regions. Its principal result foreseen will be the establishment of new laws and energy plans that will contribute to the socio-economic development of the participants regions, reducing its dependence on foreign energy and fossil fuels, and strengthening its respective power grids. Likewise, the project will contribute to the training of local human resources to supply, design, install and maintain these installations; and will be an example for neighbouring regions (replicability).
Duration: 24 months (October 2010 - September 2012)
Improve the capacity of public authorities and local technicians to support the implementation of renewable energies as part of the power supply in the Canary Islands and Senegal, reducing its dependence on foreign energy and contributing to its sustainable development.
Specific objetive 1: Identification of resources' availability, forecasts of energy demand growth, existing legislation, the main electricity market needs and existing training gaps in this area in the participating regions.
Specific objetive 2: Strengthening public institutions in charge on energy in developing strategic plans that allow achieving the objectives of the participating regions in the field of Renewable Energies.
Specific objetive 3: Know-how/technology transfer for improving the technical capacities of local human resources, definition of itineraries for formal education and support tools, along with the installation of a pilot PV plant connected to the grid in Dakar.
Specific objetive 4: Establishment of stable links of cooperation among the participating regions and strengthening the role of the outermost regions as a platform and model of energy development between the EU and West African countries.
Specific objetive 5: Maximize the dissemination of the project's activities, its progress and results, not only between the participating regions, but also in neighboring regions and among the European Union, multiplying the project's beneficiaries.
