The Public Ofra- Engineers Park is the first public park dedicated to the renewable energies in Tenerife.
ITER Ayuntamiento de La Laguna
The ITER, throughout an agreement with the city council of La Laguna, has participated during the year 2007 in the design and the implementation of the wind and photovoltaic installations which self supplies the energy needed in the park, and in the demo installations of renewable energies that make up the didactic itinerary.
The park is energetically self sufficient; two small power aerogenerators have been installed to supply the classroom and PV panels have also been placed over the roof of the cafeteria and class. Their production is injected to the general grid of Unelco and is equivalent to the electric feed of the lighting of the public grounds.
The didactic itinerary is made up of a series of installations spread throughout the park, complemented with explanatory posters, which helps to move on through the visit with no need of a guide. The applications that make up the itinerary are: Thermal- Siphon equipment, Solar Oven, solar clock, PV fed fountain, aerogenerator (nacelle and 2 of the 3 blades (each 15 m long)).
This itinerary complements itself with a didactic workshop class, equipped with audiovisual and educative material, where a helicopter and a biplane work with a solar cell, a fan and a car that move with hydrogen, a hydrogen experimental kit and solar cells and other experimental games based in several renewable energies.
