Abstract
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Environmental Department of ITER, carries out TENAIR 2005 project, which general objective is to contribute to the detection, monitoring and measures of atmospheric pollutants produced by the main anthropogenic activities in the islands. The initiative is financed by the Area of Economic development, Industry and Commerce of the Cabildo de Tenerife with a budget of 270.455 € for 2003-2005 period.
With this Project it is pretend to provide with additional and complementary information about atmospheric pollutants sources in the islands as well as how to apply the use of vanguard techniques for the study of the air quality in Tenerife.
Among the specific aims of this Project there are:

1. To evaluate biogas and other toxic gases non-controlled biogenic emissions from tips to the atmosphere in Tenerife Island.
2. To materialize detailed studies about atmospheric pollutants inmision levels by means of a mobile unit (property of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife) that includes sensors to measure in continuous mode atmospheric polluting agents (particles, SO2, NOx, O3, CO and CO2).
3. To evaluate inmision levels of organic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the islands of Tenerife.
4. To carry out measures of sulphur dioxide from industrial maim sources by means of a COSPEC;
5. To evaluate BTEX emission to the atmosphere from vehicles road traffic and main industrial sources.
6. To optimize the use of remote optical sensors (COSPEC and OP-FTIR) to evaluate air quality in Tenerife.
