Information Technology Department

The Information Technology Department and New Technologies at ITER provides support to the rest of departments in the installation of Information Systems and is in charge of the design, selection, implantation and assistance. Nevertheless, their activity is not limited exclusively to this sustenance, but is also involved in investigation project elaboration, development and diffusion in the Information Technology sector, all of this partly sponsored by external financial programs of different public administrations at all levels.

These projects allow a continuous technological actualization process in the department, as well as keeping up with the new arising tendencies related to the implantation of Information Systems.

The range of covered activities, both in internal assistance as in the external project participation is fairly large. Among the main activities of the department:

• monitoring and system control
• internet
• electronic trade and network servers
• local area network
• multimedia
• domotic system integration with efficient energy management
• software development for disabled
• presentations
• web page design
• electronic publications and telework

They also participate in international projects for the design and development of telematic platforms.

New Technologies and Disabled

Work in this area, resulting of the relation between ITER and SIMPROMI (Company for the Promotion of Disabled People) are focussed in design and experimenting of new socio-labour insertion strategies of people in disadvantage situations.

e- Administration

ITER has a series of cooperation and consortiums with the Cabildo de Tenerife for the development of Information Technologies, communication and the elaboration of applications for the e- administration. It is all about providing web presence and e-Administration capabilities to the municipalities of the island, helping with the development of web pages and internet portals.

Promotion and Dissemination

The Information Technology Department participates in different promotion projects of the infrastructure that enables with various cordless technologies a bandwidth connection for populations living in rural areas and diverse associations carrying out dynamic and diffusion activities to release the use of New Technologies.

R& D Projects

It seeks computing utilization to create new technology to be applied in transport, supercomputing and to the improvement of life quality. It affords through this, the development of technical and specialized assistance in the activities of different projects.

Software Development

One of the fields that has experimented a grater development in the past years is computing applications and internet contents along with the creation of web pages for various government bodies and companies. The Information Technology Department at ITER has not remained unaware of these advances, getting involved in a series of projects corresponding to this area.

Information Systems at ITER

One of the main tasks of the Information Technology Department is to provide technical assistance to users of more and more complicated computing equipment and networks. With the establishment of new services and applications, this department provides ITER with an internal connection level that allows high bandwidth and availability through out the whole complex.
